The Lesbian Alliance is comprised of two separate corporate entities, the Lesbian Alliance of Metro Milwaukee and the Lesbian Alliance of Metro Milwaukee Education Fund.

Although both the Lesbian Alliance of Metro Milwaukee and the Lesbian Alliance of Metro Milwaukee Education Fund are part of the same overall organization, it is necessary that the Lesbian Alliance have two separate organizations in order for the Lesbian Alliance to do a broad range of work in promoting and educating about Lesbians. This Web site collectively refers to the two organizations under the name “Lesbian Alliance.”

Although there is some overlap in the work done by each organization, certain activities the Lesbian Alliance does must be done by one organization and not the other. This is primarily in the area of lobbying. The Lesbian Alliance of Metro Milwaukee engages in legislative lobbying and social events. As an organization that is eligible to receive contributions that are tax-deductible by the contributor, federal law limits the extent to which the Lesbian Alliance of Metro Milwaukee Education Fund may engage in lobbying activities.

Therefore, most of the lobbying activity done by the Lesbian Alliance and discussed in this Web site is done by the Lesbian Alliance of Metro Milwaukee. By contrast, most of the Lesbian Alliance's educational and communication efforts described in this Web site are done by the Lesbian Alliance of Metro Milwaukee Education Fund.

You may make a contribution to either the Lesbian Alliance of Metro Milwaukee, the Lesbian Alliance of Metro Milwaukee Education Fund or both. A contribution to either organization will be used to support and promote the Lesbian community. However, each organization will only use the funds contributed directly to it to carry out the specific activities it conducts as part of the overall Lesbian Alliance mission. A donor may make a tax-deductible gift only to the Lesbian Alliance of Metro Milwaukee Education Fund. A donor who chooses to "Join" and become a member of the Lesbian Alliance is making a contribution to the Lesbian Alliance of Metro Milwaukee. Membership dues and other gifts to the Lesbian Alliance of Metro Milwaukee are not tax deductible.
